Meadow Foxtail

Meadow Fox-tail
Alopecurus pratensis

Among the first grasses to flower
this comes from the old permanent pasture
up the hill. You put it on the bench
and call it by its name, Fox-tail. Suits you,
boy, even though you’re not crafty.

You can create new wildflower meadows
using this, it dances along as you go
with your heather-stepping stride
while your hair gleams, titian red.
