Calling the cattle home

Calling the Cattle Home

In homage to Charles Kingsley (1819 – 1875)

‘O Mary, go and call the cattle home,
And call the cattle home,
And call the cattle home,
Across the sands of Dee.’
The western wind was wild and dank with foam,
And all alone went she.

Aye, kye, kye, kye
Troo troo troosh

Pwroo, prooaa, pwray laidee
Pree may, pruitchee leddy
Pree-cawfay, pree-cawfay

Hurly, hurly hawkie
Chay

Crom-crommie, crommie
Kye, kye, kye
Halloa, moylie

But still the boatmen hear her call the cattle home
Across the sands of Dee.
