Brigid’s Cross

Brigid’s Cross

A white cow follows the saint
through a miraculous field of grass.
Brigid calms the storm,
makes butter for the poor,
takes reeds and weaves a cross
to tell what happened.

On St Brigid’s Eve
over Eire and Alba
her influence heals
in so many places:
in Traquair, Dunsyre, Melbost Borve,
springs flow among green grasses.

Thank you to Michael Fortune for allowing us to share this.
